The Arc of York County is all of these things, and so much more. Through a wide range of programs, The Arc of York County gives individuals with mental retardation and other disabilities the tools they need to be exactly what they want to be - empowered, independent, valued members of their communities. Programs include:

  • Advocacy
  • Penn Employment Services
  • Summer Day Camp at Camp Pennwood
  • After School Options
  • the Adult Recreation Club
  • Pennwood Adult Vacation Experience (PAVE)
  • Tobacco-Free Healthy Lives
  • York/Adams ISO for Agency Services

The Arc of York County is dedicated to improving the lives of people with mental retardation and their families in York County. For over 50 years, The Arc of York County has been advocating for the rights of people with mental retardation and their families. The Arc of York County is your neighbor, your friend, and your source for advocacy and support in the disability community. The Arc is here for you.

The Arc of York County was founded in 1952 as an affiliate of the National Association for Retarded Citizens, now known as The Arc of The United States. The Arc of York County is a membership association and is an affiliated chapter of The Arc of The United States and The Arc of Pennsylvania.

Mission of The Arc of York County

The Arc of York County is committed to ensuring that all individuals with mental retardation and other disabilities have the opportunity to choose where and how they learn, live, work, and play. The Arc believes it is important to:

  • Empower people with mental retardation to become active, vocal, and skilled community members.
  • Support the families and friends of people with mental retardation
  • Educate the community and facilitate the development of networks and support systems that allow people with mental retardation to become valued members of their communities.

The Arc envisions a day when our community recognizes the value of people with mental retardation, makes equal opportunities available to them, and supports them in whatever manner is necessary for their full participation.
